The Luminary series brings together artists from around the world who produce groundbreaking work using drones, robotics, VR, projection mapping and more. Installations and performances fill every room at Midway from 6PM to 2AM.
Future Fires provides both a live and online showcase for a global creative community at the center of technology and the arts.
Headlining musical artist on March 18 at our Luminary series is Shigeto, whose music “carries searing emotion, and is cross-wired of a host of different musical influences” (Pitchfork). Artists-in-residence Can Buyukberber and Yagmur Uyanik (Istanbul) premiere a stunning, large-scale projection-mapped piece in the Midway Gallery. Other world premieres on March 18 include Code, Pop & Hip-Hop, a motion-capture collaboration between Oakland’s hip-hop dance wunderkind Mikey Disko, and coder-artists Marpi and Buyukberber. Award-winning architects from around the world have contributed to our “Building, the Future” exhibit. Other performances and exhibitions run the gauntlet from VR to Aerial Arts to an immersive audio installation in the Envelop room.
