“Surface” is an interactive light sculpture by Geoffrey Drake-Brockman. It is a 3D LED matrix – one of the largest in the world at 10m long and with over 16,000 individually controlled pixels. Surface is permanently installed at the Perth Children’s Hospital. It behaves like an inverted pond of water,.. each time a pedestrian walks underneath it they “throw a stone” into it, causing ripples to fan out across its virtual water surface.

Welcome to the charming home of Archibald Ombre (Archibald Shadow).
While the kids are having fun with the exhibits, take your time to look at the art that Archibald chose to hang at his rooms.
In the Living Room, you will play with your own shadows in an interactive computerized work of art.
How many times were you told not to stand between the projector and the screen? Here, Archibald encourages you to do it. You will be surprised with the result.
In the corridor that leads to the Room of Wonders, notice how your shadow changes. Weird, isn’t it?
In the Room of Wonders (Cabinet de curiosités), Archibald have collected for you wonderful objects from all around the world. A sharks jaw, dried lizards, feathers, old devices, huge seashells and more. They all have interesting shadows.
In the kitchen, a whole world of imagination opens for you – utensils become toys that you use to tell stories. With shadows, of course.
Until now, it was all fun and games. In the Laboratory it’s time to learn!
Using different devices that Archibald have prepared, you will discover the characters of Light and Shadow. You will also get a picture of your shadow and take it home as a souvenir.
In the bathroom, you will see colored shadows of yourself and you will even stop drops of water in midair.
In the greenhouse you will tell beautiful stories using your own shadows, will send birds to the skies, will meet a frog that was once a prince and read books that have shadows in them.
And now, Archibald invites you to sit down and rest. In the shadows, of course.

Spaceport America Experience visitors should be ready for an authentic experience they can’t get anywhere else! Spaceport America, the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport, was designed to make space travel as accessible to all as air travel is today – and to be a place where visitors can have a have a hands-on, fun experience inside a real commercial space launch facility.
Spaceport America Visitor Center – Truth or Consequences
Visitors begin their journey at the Spaceport America Visitor Center, a historic adobe building located at 301 S. Foch St., Truth or Consequences, NM 87901. A wonderful contrast of the old frontier meeting the new and packed with exciting educational and interactive space exhibits, visitors can purchase tour tickets and official Spaceport America merchandise prior to journeying out to the Spaceport America site on rolling multi-media theater shuttles.
During the journey out and back from the remote spaceport site, surrounded by the scenic beauty and rugged high desert range of New Mexico’s Old West, visitors learn the history and evolution of the regional Spanish and Native American pioneers of the past to the space pioneers of the future and the dawn of the second space age.
After arriving to the secure Spaceport America site and a short walk up the Astronaut Walk, visitors enter the Gateway Gallery where their journey through commercial space continues with numerous interactive exhibits and kiosks. Some visitors choose to experience the G-Shock simulator that subjects the would-be astronaut to rapid acceleration comparable to what an actual astronaut might feel in flight. Later, visitors venture into the Spaceport Operations Center (SOC) and interact with Spaceport America crewmembers and the state-of-the-art fire station before stopping in front of the iconic URS/ Foster + Partners structure, Gateway to Space terminal/hangar for a photo opportunity. The Spaceport America Experience journey lasts approximately 4 hours.
‘Vespers’ is the latest addition to Stratasys’ ‘The New Ancient’ collection and will be unveiled at the ‘Fear and Love’ exhibition at London’s Design Museum (24 November 2016 – 23 April 2017)

– Stratasys (Nasdaq:SSYS), the 3D printing and additive manufacturing solutions company, today announces the official launch of ‘The New Ancient’ 3D printed art and design collection. The collection includes ‘Vespers’, a series of exploratory 3D printed death masks, designed by Neri Oxman and her team, which will be unveiled to the public at the grand reopening of London’s Design Museum next week. Oxman combines design and computation to produce the masks which, in a landmark breakthrough, emulate the resolution and complexity that is usually only found in nature.
Oxman, along with her team members – Christoph Bader, Dominik Kolb, Rachel Smith, and Sunanda Sharma of the Mediated Matter Group – led the creation of Vespers. Comprising 15 masks in three sub-series, Vespers portrays the past, present and future, and explores the themes of past worlds and future technologies. “Made of a single material, such as wax or plaster, the death mask has historically originated as a means of capturing a person’s visage, keeping the deceased ‘alive’ through memory,” explains Oxman. “Vespers’ death masks, however, are designed to reveal cultural heritage and speculate about the perpetuation of life, both cultural and biological.”
“Vespers’ designs are entirely data driven, digitally generated, 3D printed, and – at times – biologically augmented,” Oxman continues. “By pushing the boundaries of cusp technologies – such as high-resolution material modelling, full color multi-material 3D printing, and synthetic biology – they express the death mask’s deeper meanings and possible future use, thus bringing it back to life.”
Rebirth is embodied in the third sub-series of masks, called ‘Future’. Perhaps the most ground-breaking of the trilogy, the final sub-series engages with synthetic biology to explore whether the death mask can drive the formation of new life, repositioning the objects as habitats capable of interfacing with living microorganisms. Devoid of cultural expressions and nearly colorless, the final five masks ‘re-engineer’ life by guiding living microorganisms through minute spatial features of the artefacts.
“The Vespers masks were photographed by Belgian photographer, Danielle van Zadelhoff, whose particular photography style characteristic of Chiaroscuro is reminiscent of Caravaggio and Rembrandt – resonating with the theme of timelessness as portrayed throughout the series,” explains Kaempfer.

The artist Bardula was asked by Parisian interior designers Gilles & Boissier to create a monumental kinetic light installation in the entrance of Moncler new flagship at 650 Madison Avenue, at 59th Street, Manhattan, launched in November 2016.
“Solaris” is a symmetrical installation made of 24 gold metal blades 13 feet tall that face each other and expand geometrically to form a distorted sphere, creating a magnetic and solar space that we can step into.
Bardula explains: ‘The successive layers of gold and LED light produce a star effect and movement that follows the viewer. This volume represents the centre of our immediate universe – the solar system – and takes the visitor to the heart of the ultimate star: the sun. The individual enters the centre of the world, where radiates the golden light. The space opens up in response to the visitor, immersing him or her in a volume distorted by a mysterious force – his or her own.’
Visible from the street, this installation signals the identity that Gilles & Boissier are seeking for their concept through the collaboration of artists. Here, on Madison Avenue in New York City, Bardula’s work invites passers-by to immerse themselves in a light experience and discover the universe around them.

Intel and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts are collaborating on an innovative new holiday experience that will take place at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida over the holiday season. Using all-new Intel® Shooting Star™ drones, the “Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration” show will paint colorful images across the sky at the Disney Springs shopping, dining and entertainment district.
“Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration” marks the first time a show-drone performance of this scale has ever been performed in the United States. It will feature 300 Intel Shooting Star drones in a choreographed aerial performance set to holiday-themed music. The show also marks the U.S. public debut of the Intel Shooting Star drone – a new type of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) specifically designed for entertainment purposes such as festivals, air and light shows.
